Recently, Madrid’s streets erupted in celebration as Kylian Mbappe completed his long-awaited transfer from PSG to Real Madrid, seen as the player who could lead the Champions League-winning squad to even greater heights.

However, just three months into his Real Madrid career, Mbappe’s role has already sparked debate. Some now consider him a key challenge in Carlo Ancelotti’s lineup—a scenario that, according to reports, many had anticipated before his arrival.

Mounting Frustration

Following back-to-back defeats against rivals Barcelona and AC Milan, Real Madrid has faced mounting criticism, with Mbappe singled out as one of the biggest disappointments in both games. His season has started slower than expected, with just eight goals in 15 appearances, many of them penalties.

A major issue has been his positioning. Vinicius Jr. occupies the left wing, a spot that Mbappe also prefers. Both players are essential, leaving Ancelotti with little choice but to play Mbappe as the central forward.

According to SPORT, Mbappe is already growing frustrated with this setup, believing that his effectiveness is limited by the center-forward role. Finding it difficult to break into spaces and facing a midfield that’s struggled to create clear chances, he is reportedly eager to return to his favored left-wing position. However, Ancelotti and Florentino Perez are expected to keep Vinicius on that side, leaving Mbappe’s request unaddressed.

This situation is not unfamiliar for Mbappe. Previously, at PSG, he faced a similar positional conflict with Neymar Jr. When injuries sidelined Neymar, Mbappe frequently stepped into the left-wing role. Eventually, PSG opted to sell Neymar to resolve the situation.

Now, Mbappe and his team are reportedly concerned about his position at Real Madrid, especially as much of the criticism has been directed at him. Known for his limited defensive contribution, his presence has altered the team’s structure. The reshuffle has also seen Rodrygo benched and Jude Bellingham moved to a deeper role, ultimately dampening Madrid’s attacking options.
