After an impressive performance at West Ham United, where he made multiple crucial saves, Everton’s Jordan Pickford spoke about the team’s resurgence. He feels the squad has moved on from a tough start to the season and is now playing like a “proper side.”

Following four consecutive Premier League losses to start the campaign, Everton have bounced back, with just one defeat in their last seven matches as they approach the season’s final international break. Pickford is optimistic, saying, “Hopefully, we can start turning draws into wins, but even these points matter as they add up over time. In those first four games, we didn’t meet our own standards or those expected for the badge.”

Reflecting on the progress, Pickford said, “In the last seven matches, except for last week, we’ve shown what Everton is truly about. Those early games feel like a distant memory. The Bournemouth game and a few others were unusual. But now we’re playing as a cohesive team, displaying unity, which is what we’re aiming for.”

He also noted the importance of being clinical and taking advantage of key moments. “In the first half, we saw how creating chances and putting crosses in can overwhelm an opponent, forcing them into mistakes or creating a bit of magic,” he explained.

In the West Ham match, Pickford was called into action just before halftime, stopping efforts from Jarrod Bowen and Michail Antonio. Later, he made more key saves, including one from Guido Rodriguez’s long shot and two from Danny Ings. “It was a strong performance and a good point away from home,” he said. “In moments like that, you have to stay focused because momentum can shift quickly.”

Last season, Everton’s 13 clean sheets were second only to Arsenal. After a recent shutout with Jarrad Branthwaite in the lineup, Pickford emphasized the importance of hard work from those playing in front of him, saying, “Whether it’s Jarrad or Keano, they have to work hard during the week to earn their spot on game day. Fans want dedication and passion, win or lose.”

Pickford attributes his strong connection with the fans to his pride in wearing the Everton shirt. “I think that’s why I get on so well with the fans—they see the pride and passion I bring to every game.”
