Interim England manager Lee Carsley is determined to guide the team to the top tier of the Nations League before stepping down. England faces the Republic of Ireland at Wembley on Sunday, aiming to secure first place in Group B2 after a commanding 3-0 win over Greece on Thursday.

Having taken charge following Gareth Southgate’s departure, Carsley stressed the importance of maintaining focus ahead of his final game. “Our main goal is to finish the job tomorrow,” he said. “Ireland is a strong side, so we must approach the match with respect and the right mindset.”

Sunday’s game will conclude Carsley’s short spell as manager before Thomas Tuchel takes over to lead the team into World Cup qualifiers.

Konsa Withdraws Due to Injury

Aston Villa defender Ezri Konsa has been ruled out of the clash with Ireland after picking up a hip injury during the Greece match. “He’s been evaluated, the scans are back, and he’ll return to Villa for treatment,” Carsley explained. Despite Konsa’s absence, the rest of the squad is fit and ready for Sunday.

Kane Yet to Meet Tuchel

Tuchel to takeover in January

England captain Harry Kane revealed that he hasn’t met new manager Thomas Tuchel yet, though they have exchanged text messages since Tuchel’s appointment. “I messaged him when the news was announced, and he replied. We haven’t had a proper conversation, but I’m sure we’ll connect before the March camp,” Kane said.

Kane Clears the Air on Injury Comments

Kane also clarified recent remarks regarding the number of withdrawals from England’s squad in November, explaining that his comments were aimed at clubs, not his teammates. “Every player gives their all for England when called up, but it’s a challenging part of the season. My focus is on those who are here and ready to contribute,” he said.

Addressing the attention his comments received, Kane added, “I didn’t expect such a strong reaction. The November camp is always tough, but it’s vital for building team spirit and preparing for major tournaments like the World Cup.”

Final Preparations for Ireland

Carsley confirmed that Kane will start against Ireland after beginning the Greece match on the bench. Kane, who has adapted to a rotational role under Carsley, reiterated his dedication to the team. “I always want to start, but whether I’m on the bench or playing, I’ll give everything for England.”

With one game remaining in their Nations League campaign, Carsley is focused on finishing strong before passing the baton to Tuchel, who will oversee England’s preparations for the World Cup qualifiers.
