The 2025 Super League Magic Weekend is set to return to St James’ Park, the home of Newcastle United, after taking place at Leeds United’s Elland Road in 2024. The event will be held during the first May Bank Holiday weekend, spanning 3-4 May.
St James’ Park, which first hosted the Magic Weekend in 2015, has been a regular venue, hosting the event seven times. Liverpool’s Anfield also featured as a host in 2019. The 2025 edition will bring six thrilling Super League fixtures over two days, starting on Saturday, 3 May.
The action kicks off with Leigh Leopards taking on Catalans Dragons, followed by Hull KR—last season’s beaten Grand Finalists—facing Salford Red Devils. The day concludes with a clash between St Helens and Leeds Rhinos.
Sunday’s lineup begins with Huddersfield Giants playing Hull FC, followed by champions Wigan Warriors against Warrington Wolves. The weekend wraps up with Castleford Tigers battling Wakefield Trinity.
After the cancellation of the 2020 Magic Weekend due to the pandemic, St James’ Park hosted the event for three consecutive years before it moved to Leeds in 2024. Match kickoff times for 2025 will be confirmed when the full fixture list is released at 08:00 GMT on Thursday.
Rhodri Jones, Rugby League Commercial Managing Director, emphasized the enthusiasm for a return to the North East:
“Fans have been overwhelmingly supportive of bringing the Magic Weekend back to Newcastle. Collaborating with Newcastle United, Newcastle City Council, and NE1, we’ve identified the May Bank Holiday weekend as the perfect time for this event.”
Newcastle United CEO Darren Eales also expressed his excitement:
“St James’ Park and Newcastle have consistently been favorites among Magic Weekend attendees, including many new to the sport. Alongside our city partners, we’re thrilled to welcome the rugby league community back for another memorable weekend.”
