Luton Town defender Amari’i Bell was frustrated with the way Leeds United scored in their 3-0 defeat at Elland Road on Wednesday night, describing it as a difficult result to swallow. Leeds opened the scoring early through Sam Byram, and just before the break, Joel Piroe made it 2-0. Dan James then put the game beyond Luton with an exquisite lob over goalkeeper Thomas Kaminski in the 81st minute. The win lifted Leeds to the top of the Championship, tied on points with Sheffield United, while Luton remained in 16th, just three points clear of the relegation zone.
Bell acknowledged the challenge of facing Leeds, particularly at home, but emphasized the impact of conceding a goal right before half-time. “It’s always tough coming here, especially when they’re in good form,” Bell said. “The goals we gave away weren’t ideal, and it’s hard to take. That second goal just before the break made things harder. If we’d gone in at 1-0, it might have been a different game, but 2-0 down made it a much steeper hill to climb.”
The defender also pointed to communication and pressing issues as areas where Luton struggled. “We didn’t always get the shape right, and our pressing wasn’t as effective as it should have been,” he added.
Manager Rob Edwards, under increasing pressure, also acknowledged the strength of the opposition but was critical of his side’s decision-making. “Leeds are a very good team, but we made some poor choices,” he said. “It’s probably the toughest place to come in the Championship at the moment. We wanted to be aggressive, but we couldn’t find the right balance. It’s something we need to figure out, especially in away games.”
