Newcastle United face a quick turnaround as they prepare to take on Premier League leaders Liverpool at St James’ Park on Wednesday, just days after their frustrating 1-1 draw against Crystal Palace. A last-minute header from Daniel Munoz prevented the Magpies from securing a much-needed victory at Selhurst Park.

With such a tight schedule, Eddie Howe has adjusted his training plans. Players who featured in the starting XI against Palace have been focusing on recovery and gym sessions. Among them were key figures like Joelinton, Fabian Schär, and Bruno Guimarães, who were seen working indoors, away from the elements. On the training pitch, those who didn’t start—such as Sean Longstaff, Jacob Murphy, and Miguel Almirón—were put through their paces.

One standout in Monday’s training session was 17-year-old striker Sean Neave. The young forward, who has been in excellent form for both the Under-18s and Under-21s, with eight goals to his name, was involved in first-team drills. While it’s exciting to see Neave working alongside senior players, he’s not expected to feature in the Liverpool game, with Newcastle well-stocked in attack, including Alexander Isak, Callum Wilson, and Will Osula.

Also spotted during training was club captain Jamaal Lascelles, who is continuing his recovery from an ACL injury sustained in March. Lascelles has not played since then but is targeting a return in 2025. His future at Newcastle remains uncertain, with Wolves reportedly interested in securing his services in January. With just months left on his contract and Newcastle already thin in defence, a move away seems unlikely, at least for the time being.
