Ruud van Nistelrooy made a winning start to his tenure as Leicester City manager with a 3-1 victory over West Ham United on Tuesday. However, he was quick to highlight that much more work is needed for the team to establish themselves in the Premier League.
Appointed last Friday to replace the dismissed Steve Cooper, van Nistelrooy, who briefly served as interim manager at Manchester United after Erik ten Hag’s departure, has been working hard to integrate himself and the team. Reflecting on his first few days, he said, “It’s been very busy getting to know everyone and adjusting, but it’s been rewarding.”
Despite the positive result, the Dutchman emphasized the challenges ahead. “We know the Premier League demands excellence in every game,” he stated. “There’s a lot we need to improve, from our defense to our counter-attacks and possession play. We’ve got plenty to work on, but I’m pleased with the three points.”
Leicester currently sit 15th in the league with 13 points from 14 matches. They will host fourth-placed Brighton & Hove Albion on Sunday.
