The upcoming January transfer window could be a pivotal one for Crystal Palace, who are looking to raise funds for new signings by offloading Odsonne Edouard.
Edouard, who was signed from Celtic for £14m in 2021, has had an inconsistent time at Selhurst Park. Despite showing glimpses of his potential, the 26-year-old forward has failed to deliver on a regular basis. This lack of consistency led to him being loaned out to Leicester City for the 2024/25 season. However, his stint at the King Power Stadium has been far from successful. Edouard has played only eight times and has not featured since Ruud van Nistelrooy took over as Leicester’s manager. The Dutch coach is reportedly keen to move him on in January, and the Foxes are considering ending the loan prematurely to seek other options.
If that happens, Crystal Palace are expected to explore a permanent sale of Edouard. With Palace struggling near the bottom of the Premier League, the club is eager to strengthen their squad, and selling Edouard could provide the necessary funds. Former Premier League scout Mick Brown has suggested that the Eagles are prepared to part with Edouard to reinvest in the squad, although the success of this plan depends on finding a club willing to take him on.
In a move that may prove beneficial in this situation, Edouard signed a one-year extension with Palace earlier this year, keeping him at Selhurst Park until 2026. This extension has helped protect his value, which could make him more appealing to potential buyers. “Palace are looking to sell him permanently if his loan is cut short,” Brown told Football Insider. “The sale could help them bring in new players, though they’ll need to find a team willing to take a chance on him given his struggles at Leicester.”
While it’s unlikely that Crystal Palace will fetch a large sum for Edouard in January, any transfer fee would allow them to reinvest in strengthening their squad for the second half of the season.
