Anouk Denton’s brilliant solo goal against Crystal Palace has earned her a spot in the running for the Barclays Women’s Super League’s December Goal of the Month award.
In the 82nd minute, the West Ham left-back made an impressive surge from just inside the opposition half, racing toward the edge of the box before unleashing a powerful strike with her weaker left foot. The ball sailed into the far corner of the net, giving West Ham a 3-1 lead in what would become a 5-2 victory at Chigwell Construction Stadium. Denton’s stellar performance also saw her named Barclays WSL Player of the Match.
This goal, Denton’s second of the season, highlights her consistent contributions. The 21-year-old has played every minute for West Ham in the league this season, under the guidance of manager Rehanne Skinner. Denton is now up against stiff competition for the award, with nominees including Manchester United’s Leah Galton, Everton’s Sara Holmgaard, Manchester City’s Mary Fowler, Arsenal’s Alessia Russo, Chelsea’s Wieke Kaptein, and Brighton & Hove Albion’s Marisa Olislagers and Jelena Čanković.
