Alexander Isak continued his impressive run of form with a goal against Tottenham, equaling a Newcastle club record set by Alan Shearer. The Swedish striker put Eddie Howe’s side in front just before the break at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, scoring seven minutes before half-time. Isak was in the right spot to tap in a low cross from Jacob Murphy, which had been deflected off Radu Dragusin.

This goal marked Isak’s seventh consecutive Premier League match in which he has found the net, making him only the third Newcastle player to achieve such a feat. He joins Shearer, who scored in seven straight games between September and November 1996, and Joe Willock, who achieved the same during his loan spell in April and May 2021.

Isak now has the opportunity to break Shearer’s long-standing record when Newcastle faces Wolves at home on January 15. Another goal would not only see him surpass the club’s record but also bring him closer to Jamie Vardy’s Premier League milestone of 11 consecutive goals, a feat achieved during Leicester’s 2015/16 title-winning season.

With this latest strike, Isak has now scored 13 league goals this season, taking his total to 34 Premier League goals since the beginning of the previous campaign. Over the same period, only Erling Haaland (41) and Mohamed Salah (35) have scored more. Isak’s goal helped complete a first-half comeback for Newcastle, which followed a controversial equalizer from Anthony Gordon, following a missed handball in the buildup to Tottenham’s opener from Dominic Solanke.
