Ange Postecoglou has quickly shifted his attention to Tottenham’s upcoming Premier League match against Brentford, aiming to ensure that their positive Europa League performance doesn’t get overshadowed by continued struggles in the league. On Friday morning (AEDT), Spurs triumphed 3-0 over Swedish side Elfsborg, securing a spot in the Europa League round of 16. The goals came from homegrown talents Dane Scarlett, Damola Ajayi, and Mikey Moore.

Postecoglou, reflecting on the achievement, highlighted the significance of the night. “It was a brilliant night for the club,” he remarked. “It’s rare to see three homegrown players on the scoresheet in a European match. It’s also rare to finish a European game with five or six teenagers on the pitch.”

However, it wasn’t all positive for Tottenham. Defender Radu Dragusin, who had come on as a substitute, picked up a knee injury, adding to the club’s already long injury list. “I don’t have full details, but it didn’t look good when he left the field. We’ll wait for more information, but it’s disappointing,” Postecoglou commented on the injury. On a brighter note, Micky van de Ven made a successful return from a hamstring injury, playing the first half as planned.

Van de Ven’s return is especially timely as Spurs look to rebound in the Premier League, where they’ve struggled. Tottenham currently sits 15th in the standings, having lost six of their last seven league matches.

“We’re clearly in a tough spot in the league. My focus is now on Sunday’s match and getting our league form back on track,” Postecoglou said. “It’s been a challenging period, particularly in the league, but I believe we’re making real progress. It will come together soon, but right now, the priority is addressing our immediate issues.”

There’s been ongoing speculation about Tottenham’s interest in Bayern Munich forward Mathys Tel, with reports suggesting that Bayern has accepted a €60 million offer for the 19-year-old. Postecoglou, however, remained tight-lipped about the situation. “I can’t comment on anything regarding Tel,” he said. “I’ve been focused on preparing the team for tonight’s game. Others are handling the transfer matters, and I’ll be updated if there’s any news.”
