Brentford climbed to sixth in the Premier League standings after securing a dramatic 4-2 victory over Newcastle at the Gtech Stadium, with Kevin Schade scoring for the fourth time in a week. It was a pulsating match in which the hosts overcame two equalizers from Eddie Howe’s side, who were undone by defensive lapses that handed Brentford crucial goals.
The game started with Brentford on the front foot, and they took the lead in the eighth minute through Bryan Mbeumo, who rifled a superb left-footed shot into the top corner. However, Newcastle responded swiftly, equalizing in the 15th minute as Alexander Isak rose above the defenders to head in Jacob Murphy’s pinpoint cross. Isak had a golden opportunity to put Newcastle ahead shortly after but was thwarted by a fine save from Brentford keeper Mark Flekken after the striker failed to convert a one-on-one.
Newcastle began to assert themselves after their equalizer, with Bruno Guimaraes firing a shot just wide of the post, while the hosts continued to be a threat on the break. The game took a dramatic turn in the 26th minute when Harvey Barnes, under minimal pressure, passed the ball straight to Yoane Wissa, who seized the gift and fired Brentford back into the lead with a clinical finish past Nick Pope.
Barnes would redeem himself, however, when he made it 2-2 early in the second half. A well-weighted pass from Murphy found Barnes in space inside the box, and he calmly slotted the ball past Flekken to bring the visitors level once more. Yet, despite the setback, Brentford refused to be rattled and retook the lead in the 56th minute. Nathan Collins found himself unmarked at the far post to convert a long clearance from Flekken, poking the ball past Pope to make it 3-2.
The match was finally sealed in stoppage time when Schade, who had been a constant threat, latched onto a perfectly weighted pass from Mbeumo to lift the ball delicately over Pope and secure all three points for Brentford.
With both teams level on points before the match, this result was a significant one for Brentford, who have enjoyed exceptional home form this season. Meanwhile, Newcastle’s away struggles continued, as their defensive mistakes proved costly. Brentford’s ability to capitalize on these errors, combined with their attacking prowess, ensured a well-deserved victory that propelled them into the top half of the table.
