Newcastle United were keen to bounce back when Leicester City arrived at St James’ Park on Saturday, especially after two earlier home defeats to West Ham and Brighton. Following a 4-2 setback at Brentford, Eddie Howe’s side responded emphatically, delivering a 4-0 thrashing to Leicester. Bruno Guimaraes netted his first goal of the season, and the commanding win set the stage for a vital Carabao Cup clash.

Looking ahead, Newcastle faces Brentford once again, this time on home soil, with a chance to exact revenge for the recent loss and secure a place in the competition’s semi-finals. Having reached the Carabao Cup final just two seasons ago, the Magpies are eager to end their 69-year wait for a domestic trophy.

Guimaraes, reflecting on the team’s progress, spoke to Sky Sports about the need for consistency. “We’re 12th right now, but the top four is still within reach—just a few points behind,” he said. “If we can string together a few wins, we’ll be right back in the race. It’s crucial that we maintain the same level of performance no matter the opponent.”

The victory over Leicester, Guimaraes noted, was vital not only for the three points but for the clean sheet, which had been a rare positive in recent matches. “The losses to Liverpool and Brentford were unacceptable defensively,” he admitted. “We had one of the best defenses when we reached the Champions League, so we need to return to that form. Scoring my first goal of the season was something I had been waiting for, and I feel relieved it finally came.”
