The AFC East has quickly become one of the NFL’s most one-sided divisions. Among the few divisions with only one team above .500, the AFC East stands out with the Buffalo Bills firmly in control, holding eight wins as they head into Week 11. Meanwhile, no other team in the division has more than three wins.
There was plenty of preseason talk about which team might finally unseat the Bills, who have ruled the AFC East since 2020. While the Miami Dolphins nearly challenged them over the past two years, Buffalo managed to stay on top each time. After this year’s offseason changes, some thought the Bills might slip and give another team an opening. Both the Dolphins and New York Jets looked like strong contenders, with the Jets even getting Super Bowl buzz. Going into Week 1, the Jets had a roster that looked better than Buffalo’s on paper and the much-anticipated return of Aaron Rodgers, back from last year’s Achilles injury.
However, the season has exposed the Jets’ weaknesses. They’re now at 3-7, their playoff hopes dashed, and their future looking grim. Buffalo already handed them one loss, and the Jets have only continued to struggle.
Sports host Colin Cowherd, on his show “The Herd,” recently highlighted the Jets’ ongoing issues, saying the team is more focused on market relevance than on building real success. He compared the Jets to the Brooklyn Nets—a flashy big-market team with high-profile players that still couldn’t achieve real cohesion. Despite their talent, the Jets haven’t gelled as a team, and it shows on the field.
For Buffalo, the Jets’ missteps only solidify their dominance in the AFC East. As long as the Jets continue making big mistakes, the Bills look set to keep their division lead for the foreseeable future.
