Crystal Palace manager Oliver Glasner revealed that Eddie Nketiah sustained a hamstring injury during the game against Wolves, adding him to an already extensive injury list. Nketiah, 25, who joined from Arsenal in a transfer that could reach £30 million, is now one of nine players unavailable for Palace’s upcoming clash with Fulham on Saturday. Discussing the depleted squad before the London derby, Glasner emphasized the challenges he faces with limited player options.
“We’re hit with several injuries,” Glasner said. “Chadi Riad and Franca are out long-term, Eberechi Eze is still recovering, Adam Wharton is out after surgery, and Jefferson Lerma is also unavailable. Eddie Nketiah has a hamstring injury, and Will Hughes is suspended for reaching five yellow cards. It leaves us with a tight squad, though Joel Ward and Chris Richards are back.”
Speculation suggested that Nketiah’s hamstring injury might have resulted from a private training session, but Glasner quickly dismissed these reports, accepting accountability for the forward’s setback.
“Eddie played the last two games for us. Against Villa, he was on the move constantly, covering more ground than anyone in his 83 minutes. I should’ve taken him off earlier in the Wolves game, as he was sprinting hard again. In the Tottenham game, we logged the highest intensity runs in the league, all within just three days. I made a mistake not resting him sooner. He felt some tightness during the Wolves match but kept pushing for the team, and now he’s paying the price. We’ll monitor his recovery.”
Glasner added, “I’ve seen the rumors about a private session, but Eddie told me he felt the strain during the game itself. The scan showed it was more serious than expected. I trust my players completely and see no reason to doubt them in favor of outside speculation.”
