Despite earning a last-minute equalizer in their 1-1 draw against Newcastle United, Crystal Palace felt they had dropped two valuable points. Going into the match in 19th place with only one league win this season, the Eagles put in a dominant performance at Selhurst Park, registering 16 shots and 24 touches inside Newcastle’s penalty area. By contrast, Newcastle could only muster a single blocked shot, and Palace goalkeeper Dean Henderson was not called into action throughout the game.

The match turned in Newcastle’s favor in the 53rd minute, when Marc Guehi’s own goal, following a clever free-kick routine, gave the visitors the lead. However, Palace responded late in the game with Daniel Munoz scoring the equalizer after missing a golden opportunity earlier in the first half.

Palace midfielder Will Hughes called the performance “incredible,” especially considering how they restricted Newcastle to just one shot on target. However, Hughes also felt that they should have claimed all three points. Manager Oliver Glasner shared this frustration, believing the result didn’t reflect the overall performance.

“After 100 minutes, we absolutely deserved to win,” Glasner said in his post-match interview. “The stats tell the story – we had 16 shots, and Newcastle didn’t have a meaningful effort on goal. We created several excellent chances, but we let ourselves down by not finishing them. Despite that, we kept pushing, remained focused, and never lost our belief. We controlled the game well, particularly in avoiding dangerous counter-attacks. In the end, both the players and the fans at Selhurst Park deserved that equalizer.”
