Everton are reportedly eyeing Ajax forward Brian Brobbey as a potential target to strengthen their attacking options. According to Fichajes, the Merseyside club is preparing to launch a £42m bid for the 22-year-old striker, who has been a key player for Ajax in recent seasons. However, with Everton’s ongoing struggles in the Premier League, particularly in terms of goal-scoring, Brobbey could represent an important addition to their squad.
Currently sitting 16th in the league with just 10 points from 11 matches, Everton are facing another battle against relegation. Scoring goals has been a major concern, as they are one of the lowest-scoring teams in the division, with only 10 goals to their name. Dominic Calvert-Lewin, the club’s long-standing first-choice striker, has endured a difficult start to the season, finding the net only twice in 11 league appearances. Backup forward Beto has similarly struggled, scoring just once.
With Calvert-Lewin’s contract set to expire next summer, and his future at the club uncertain, Everton are expected to seek a new striker to replace him. Brobbey, with his physical presence and strong attacking attributes, has emerged as a potential solution. Though his form has dipped this season, his performances last term were impressive, and he could offer the kind of striker Sean Dyche needs.
That said, the reported £42m fee for Brobbey might be considered steep, given his inconsistent form at the highest level. Everton could look to negotiate a lower price, particularly as Ajax may be reluctant to sell one of their key assets. If the deal goes through, Brobbey could provide the firepower Everton desperately need to improve their attack and avoid another relegation battle.
