Ruben Amorim is reported to have reached a preliminary agreement with Manchester United, though finalizing the transfer relies significantly on Sporting CP’s president, Frederico Varandas.
While United is prepared to meet Amorim’s £8.3 million release clause, confirmed by Sporting shortly before their League Cup match against Nacional, A Bola reports that Varandas has requested an extra £4.1 million to cover the termination costs for Amorim’s coaching staff. Even with this fee, Sporting could still take up to 30 days to officially part ways with Amorim.
Amorim is not expected to lead United for their upcoming Premier League match against Chelsea on Sunday. Although United’s players were initially surprised by the news, they are reportedly positive about Joao Pereira potentially taking over.
During a press conference on Tuesday evening, Amorim addressed the rumors, explaining that there was “nothing concrete” to share. “At this moment, I don’t have any details – anything I say would only add to the speculation. Once everything is settled, I’ll provide more information,” he said.
Amorim emphasized that he would clarify his position when the time is right: “We just need a bit more patience before I can explain the situation. It’s ultimately my decision, and I’ll share it in due time.”
In the meantime, Amorim is set to continue with Sporting and is preparing for their upcoming league match against Estrela da Amadora on Friday. “Tomorrow, I’ll be back at training, focused on the Estrela game,” he noted.
