Everton squandered a 2-0 lead in dramatic fashion, conceding three goals after the 87th minute to lose 3-2 to Bournemouth in a thrilling Premier League match. Sean Dyche described the defeat as the most frustrating of his career, expressing his disbelief at how his team dominated the game yet ended up with nothing.
Everton appeared to be cruising to their first Premier League win of the season after second-half goals from Michael Keane and Dominic Calvert-Lewin put them in control. However, Bournemouth’s Antoine Semenyo scored with only their second shot on target in the 87th minute, triggering Everton’s collapse. Stoppage-time goals from Lewis Cook and Luis Sinisterra completed the comeback, which Bournemouth manager Andoni Iraola admitted his side did not deserve.
Dyche expressed his frustration, saying that despite Everton’s dominance, they failed to do the basics, such as winning tackles and headers, to see the game out. He mentioned that he sensed something was wrong even before Bournemouth’s first goal, as Everton failed to maintain their intensity. Dyche emphasized that in the Premier League, teams must play until the final whistle and lamented that his side’s inability to do so cost them the match.
Michael Dawson, speaking on Soccer Saturday, remarked that Everton were in complete control and looked like a different team in the second half. He was stunned by how they conceded three goals from crosses, something uncharacteristic of both Everton and a Sean Dyche team. He questioned how the players would recover from such a loss, with Everton now facing a trip to Aston Villa after the international break.
