After Burnley secured a 1-0 victory over Leeds United at Elland Road on September 14, Jaidon Anthony caught attention with his response to a social media post by Hannibal Mejbri. Leeds suffered their first loss of the EFL Championship season, with the decisive goal coming from Luca Koleosho in the 18th minute.

Following the game, Mejbri, who recently joined Burnley from Manchester United, shared an Instagram post saying, “Always good to play in these types of matches, even better when you take home the 3 points.” Anthony, currently on loan at Burnley after playing for Leeds during the 2023/24 season, reacted to Mejbri’s post with a laughing emoji, facepalm emoji, and fire emoji.

Given Mejbri’s connection to Manchester United, a club with a heated rivalry against Leeds, it was no surprise that he relished the win. His interactions with the Leeds crowd as he left the field after being substituted in the second half further highlighted his enjoyment.

While Mejbri’s post might have been expected to ruffle a few feathers among Leeds supporters, Anthony’s response sparked greater controversy. Despite being a Burnley player, many of his teammates refrained from commenting, making his participation more noticeable.

Leeds fans, who remember Anthony’s time with their club, likely hoped he would avoid adding to a post that could be interpreted as mocking their team. Whether Anthony fully grasped the underlying tone of the post or not, his reaction may have damaged his rapport with the Elland Road faithful, potentially leading to a chilly reception if he ever returns.
