Lucas Paquetá sparked speculation about his future at West Ham with a mysterious social media post ahead of their 1-1 draw against Bournemouth on Monday night. The Brazilian midfielder had put West Ham ahead with a late penalty, but Bournemouth’s Enes Unal equalized with a stunning free-kick, leaving the Hammers unable to secure back-to-back wins.
Before the match, Paquetá posted a cryptic message on X, quoting lyrics from a song by Brazilian gospel duo Jefferson and Suellen. The lyrics, which translate to “I’m not from here, I will return home, he comes to get me and with him I will go,” led to speculation that Paquetá might be considering a move back to his native Brazil, with Flamengo, his former club, rumored to be interested in his services.
In addition to the transfer rumors, Paquetá has been under scrutiny following an investigation by the Football Association into alleged spot-fixing, specifically for earning deliberate bookings in four Premier League games. He is also facing an investigation in Brazil, though he continues to deny all charges.
Despite the ongoing speculation, Paquetá downplayed the rumors in his post-match comments. “I love playing for West Ham,” he said. “I enjoy the connection with the fans and am always looking to improve with the coach.”
West Ham will be back in action on Saturday, when they host Brighton at the London Stadium.
