Matheus Cunha has been charged with misconduct by the Football Association after an altercation with Ipswich staff following Wolves’ dramatic 2-1 defeat at Molineux on Saturday. The incident occurred after Jack Taylor’s injury-time winner, which sealed Ipswich’s victory and left Wolves players visibly frustrated. Cunha was seen confronting security staff and had a physical clash with an Ipswich staff member as tensions flared.
Cunha, who has been one of Wolves’ most influential players this season, could face a suspension if found guilty of the charge. His teammate, Rayan Ait-Nouri, was also sent off after the final whistle as emotions boiled over in the aftermath of the defeat.
The loss led to the sacking of head coach Gary O’Neil, with Vitor Pereira, former Porto manager, expected to be appointed as his replacement within the next 48 hours.
An FA statement read: “Matheus Cunha has been charged with misconduct following the Premier League match between Wolverhampton Wanderers and Ipswich Town on Saturday, 14 December. The forward allegedly acted in an improper manner after the final whistle. He has until Thursday, 19 December, to provide a response.”
