Newcastle United are gearing up for their Premier League fixture against Fulham, but manager Eddie Howe faces a significant challenge with the potential absence of one of his key players at Craven Cottage.

Forward Alexander Isak is doubtful after suffering a toe injury. This follows a previous issue with his eye that forced him off at halftime in Newcastle’s victory over Wolves. Although Isak has recovered from the eye problem, this new injury puts his participation against Fulham in question. According to The Telegraph, his status for the match remains uncertain.

Adding to Howe’s dilemma, striker Callum Wilson is also unavailable due to a back injury. As a result, Howe may consider handing a debut to 21-year-old William Osula, who joined from Sheffield United during the summer transfer window. Another option would be to reposition Anthony Gordon as a striker, moving him from his usual left-wing role. This change could see Harvey Barnes step in on the wing after his goal-scoring performance against Wolves.

Howe has previously commended Gordon for his adaptability, noting his ability to excel in multiple roles, including as a forward. The 23-year-old has already made an impact this season, scoring once in five appearances. Isak, meanwhile, has contributed a goal and an assist in the league, making his absence a potentially significant blow to the team’s offensive power.

A victory against Fulham could see Newcastle rise to the top of the Premier League standings, even if temporarily, as Arsenal and Manchester City are set to face off later in the weekend.

Having won three of their first four games, Newcastle’s ability to cope with these injury setbacks will be key to sustaining their early momentum in the season.
