Newcastle United captain Bruno Guimaraes has expressed frustration following his team’s disappointing 4-2 defeat at Brentford on Saturday, admitting that the side lost their composure after conceding the third goal. With Nathan Collins’ strike making it 3-1, Newcastle’s earlier positive play was undone, and they struggled to recover. The Magpies were ultimately responsible for gifting all four goals to Brentford, who extended their impressive home form.
As the match reached its conclusion, and Kevin Schade added a fourth for Brentford, many of the traveling Newcastle supporters had already left, visibly frustrated with the performance. After the final whistle, the away end was nearly empty, with the players left to acknowledge the small group of fans that remained. Guimaraes, speaking to the media, did not hold back in his assessment of the team’s display.
“It’s really disappointing,” Guimaraes told Premier League Productions. “We showed some good moments in the first half, but after we conceded the third goal, we lost control. We always seem to need to concede before we start playing. We’re conceding too many goals, and this can’t keep happening. We need to be more consistent.”
Guimaraes pointed to the team’s disorganization after the third goal, highlighting their frequent giveaways, which led to further punishment. “Last season, we had one of the best defenses in the league, but now we’re conceding far too many. It’s a collective issue, and we have to find a way to fix it.”
Head coach Eddie Howe shared Guimaraes’ concerns, issuing an apology to the traveling fans who endured difficult weather conditions to attend the match. “We want to make our supporters proud and happy, but today was the complete opposite,” Howe said. “I’m deeply sorry for the performance and thank all the fans who came. We’ll work as hard as we can to make sure this doesn’t happen again.”
