Despite 16 Premier League clubs voting to approve new amendments to the Associated Party Transaction (APT) rules, which continue to limit Newcastle United’s ability to spend their own money, the meeting wasn’t entirely negative for the club. While the media largely focused on the APT vote, which placed restrictions on both Newcastle and Manchester City, another important development at the meeting offered some good news: the Premier League is set to restructure international broadcasting rights, resulting in a 17% increase in revenue, according to The Chronicle.
This revenue boost is set to benefit all Premier League clubs, including Newcastle, whose international following is rapidly growing. Last season, the club saw a 40% increase in global TV viewership, and with recent tours in Japan and the USA, that growth is expected to continue. Competing in the Champions League will only further enhance the club’s global profile, which is crucial as Newcastle aims to secure a spot in Europe’s premier competition.
As The Chronicle highlights, Newcastle’s £72.2 million share of TV revenue last season was only surpassed by Manchester City, Manchester United, and Arsenal. With the Magpies’ fixtures regularly featured on TV, an increase in overall TV revenue will bring additional financial benefits. While the club may not secure major sponsorship deals from PIF-backed companies, this rise in TV revenue represents a valuable, if smaller, victory for Newcastle as they continue to build on their growing global presence.
