Pep Guardiola has revealed that Kyle Walker, the captain of Manchester City, has asked to leave the club. Walker was notably absent from the squad during City’s commanding 8-0 victory over Salford in the FA Cup third round. Guardiola shared after the match that the right-back had requested to explore opportunities abroad just two days before the game.
“Kyle requested to explore options abroad and possibly end his career there,” Guardiola said.
Despite making nine starts in 15 Premier League appearances this season, Walker’s involvement in the team has waned recently. His future at Manchester City has been the subject of speculation due to both personal and professional matters. The defender has been linked with a move to the Saudi Pro League, despite signing a new contract last year that was set to keep him at City until 2026. It now seems that Walker could be on the verge of departing the club.
