Ruud van Nistelrooy has revealed that Leicester City is in no hurry to make any new signings in January, despite rumors linking the club to several Manchester United players. The Dutch manager, who left Manchester United last month after Ruben Amorim opted not to keep him as part of the coaching staff, had a brief stint as interim manager following Erik ten Hag’s sacking. During his four-match tenure, he managed to secure three wins and one draw.
After a short break from management, Van Nistelrooy returned to the dugout this week, taking over at Leicester. His first match in charge saw a 3-1 win over West Ham, lifting the Foxes four points clear of the relegation zone.
While speculation surrounding Leicester’s January transfer plans has already begun, Van Nistelrooy made it clear that there is no immediate pressure to sign new players. Ahead of the team’s upcoming match against Brighton, he addressed the speculation, stating that he and the club had already discussed potential moves before he signed. He explained, “We spoke about the winter window and also about the summer. There’s no rush at this stage. The current squad will have time to show what they can do over the next month. After that, I’ll have a clearer view of what’s needed.”
Leicester’s summer transfer business included a net spend of £46 million, with the departure of Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall to Chelsea for £30 million. The club also brought in several new players, including Oliver Skipp, Bilal El Khannous, Bobby Decordova-Reid, Jordan Ayew, Caleb Akoli, and Abdul Fatawu. Despite some concerns over the club’s financial situation, Van Nistelrooy reassured fans that funds will be available for future transfers, simply replying with a confident “Yes” when asked if there was money to spend.
