Southampton’s difficult run continued as they let a first-half lead slip away at Crystal Palace, ultimately losing 2-1 and extending their winless streak in the Premier League to nine games. With defeats in his first two matches, new manager Ivan Juric faces an uphill battle to keep the club in the top flight, especially with Southampton stuck on just six points halfway through the season—an almost impossible position to recover from historically.

The Saints took the lead early, with Tyler Dibling scoring in the 14th minute to break a four-match goal drought. However, Palace leveled the score in the 31st minute through Trevoh Chalobah’s header from a corner, despite Southampton’s protests over a potential foul on goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale by Jean-Phillipe Mateta. After a VAR review, the goal was allowed to stand.

In the second half, Crystal Palace completed the comeback when Eberechi Eze’s well-hit shot deflected off a defender to beat Ramsdale, putting the home side ahead 2-1. Southampton, unable to create meaningful chances, failed to respond. The defeat leaves them rooted to the bottom of the table, now six points adrift of 19th-placed Ipswich, while Palace’s win provides them with a crucial six-point buffer from the relegation zone.
