Sheffield United’s £100 million takeover has been officially completed, with new American owners COH Sports, led by Steven Rosen and Helmy Eltoukhy, taking control of the club. Their primary goal is to establish the Blades as a regular Premier League team, ensuring long-term success at Bramall Lane.
The deal follows Prince Abdullah’s final agreement to sell the club, and with Rosen and Eltoukhy now at the helm as co-chairmen, they have outlined their ambitious vision for Sheffield United. A key part of this plan is to extend the contract of manager Chris Wilder, whose current deal runs out in June. Securing a new agreement with Wilder is one of the new owners’ first priorities, with a focus on giving him the resources to strengthen the squad during the upcoming January transfer window.
Wilder has been instrumental in the club’s recovery after their relegation from the Premier League last season, guiding Sheffield United to the top of the Championship. Rosen and Eltoukhy have vowed to back Wilder’s push for promotion, committing to increase the club’s transfer budget and approve two loan signings, as well as funding permanent deals.
Rosen, a financier from Ohio, and Eltoukhy, a healthcare entrepreneur from California, are excited to begin their new chapter with the club. They met Wilder at the Steel City derby victory against Sheffield Wednesday and expressed frustration at the delays that held up the takeover. In their statement, they expressed their pride in becoming the new owners: “We are honoured to take on the responsibility of leading this historic club. We are excited to work towards ensuring Sheffield United’s long-term success and stability.”
The new owners made it clear that their aim is to make Sheffield United a fixture in the Premier League, rather than a one-off visitor. They have been encouraged by the team’s strong start to the current season and are determined to continue supporting the club’s progress. They also emphasized their recognition of the club’s deep connection to its supporters, promising that fans will always be at the center of their plans.
“We fully understand the responsibility that comes with owning Sheffield United,” they said. “The fans are the heart of this club, and we are committed to ensuring the club remains affordable and accessible for them.”
Prince Abdullah, along with outgoing chairman Yusuf Giansiracusa, also shared a message as they passed the baton. Reflecting on their tenure, they said, “While the club has faced challenges in recent years, we leave knowing that Sheffield United is in a stronger position than ever before.”
