According to Sky Sports journalist Dharmesh Sheth, the Hammers have identified Egan as a key target to bolster their defence after losing Nayef Aguerd and Kurt Zouma during the summer transfer window. With Egan currently a free agent, the club has initiated talks to secure his services through a Bosman deal.

Egan, who hails from Cork in the Republic of Ireland, has been without a club since his contract with Sheffield United expired on July 1. He developed his early footballing skills in Ireland before moving to Sunderland AFC’s youth academy over a decade ago. However, it wasn’t until his 2018 transfer to Sheffield United that Egan became a prominent figure in professional football. During his time with the Blades, he made 224 appearances, scoring eight goals and providing five assists.

After parting ways with Sheffield United earlier this year, Egan has been seeking a new club, with West Ham now considering offering him a return to the Premier League.

The East London club’s interest in Egan is understandable, given their need for defensive reinforcements. West Ham signed Max Kilman and Jean-Clair Todibo during the summer, but they also saw the departure of key defenders, including Angelo Ogbonna, who became a free agent, and Nayef Aguerd, who joined Real Sociedad on loan. Additionally, Kurt Zouma moved to Al-Orobah on loan, leaving the squad short in central defence.

With the transfer window now closed, West Ham can only sign free agents, making Egan an attractive option. The club has started negotiations for a Bosman move, and it will be interesting to see if Egan makes his return to the Premier League with West Ham in the near future.
