Michail Antonio, West Ham’s 34-year-old forward, is in stable condition after being involved in a road traffic accident, the club confirmed on Saturday. Antonio is conscious and able to communicate, and he remains under close medical supervision at a hospital in central London. The news follows the circulation of unverified images online showing a heavily damaged Ferrari, sparking concerns about the player’s wellbeing.

West Ham issued an official statement, saying: “Michail Antonio is stable following a road traffic accident in the Essex area this afternoon. He is conscious, communicating, and currently under close supervision at a central London hospital.” The club also requested privacy for Antonio and his family during this challenging time, and announced they would provide further updates as necessary.

Essex Fire Service confirmed that emergency crews had attended the scene, rescuing a man who was trapped in his car. Several Premier League clubs, including Arsenal, Chelsea, and Liverpool, have expressed their support for Antonio, with Arsenal posting on social media: “Everyone at Arsenal sends their love, support, and well wishes to Michail, his family, and West Ham United.”

Antonio, who has been with West Ham since 2015, has scored 83 goals in 323 appearances for the club. This season, he scored once in 15 appearances, netting in a 4-1 win over Ipswich in early October. The Jamaica international was also part of the team that secured the Europa Conference League title in 2023 under David Moyes. West Ham, now managed by Julen Lopetegui, are preparing to face Wolves at home on Monday.
