Houston Texans defensive end Will Anderson Jr. had to leave Thursday night’s game against the New York Jets after sustaining a left ankle injury. The injury happened in the first quarter, with 7:18 remaining, as he attempted to bring down Breece Hall on a 12-yard run. Anderson, visibly in pain, dropped to his knees and hit the ground in frustration before being assisted off the field.
By the third quarter, the Texans listed Anderson as questionable to return.
Anderson has been a key player this season, achieving a personal best of 7.5 sacks, which places him in a tie for third in the NFL. He has also recorded 39 quarterback pressures, ranking him fourth in the league, based on Next Gen Stats.
Houston faced additional setbacks, as left guard Kenyon Green was sidelined at halftime due to a left shoulder injury. The Jets dealt with similar issues, losing left guard John Simpson to a groin injury, while backup lineman Jake Hanson was ruled out with a hamstring problem.
