Seamus Coleman, the Killybegs-born full-back, became Everton’s club captain in August 2019 after Phil Jagielka’s departure. He also serves as the captain for the Republic of Ireland. Ashley Young, who joined Everton in 2023, recalled the immediate impact Coleman had on him when they first met at Finch Farm. Young shared, “When I arrived, Skip was the first player I spoke to. From that moment, you sense the soul of the club through him. His passion is evident, and it radiates throughout the team and the wider club, especially among those who have been here for so long and care so deeply.”
At 36, Coleman remains a key figure for Everton, having made 424 appearances and contributed to 57 goals over nearly 16 years at the club. While his playing time has diminished, his current contract runs until June 2025, leaving the question of his future up in the air.
Young also reflected on the broader impact of Coleman’s leadership, saying, “You can’t help but get swept up in it. His passion is contagious, whether we’re playing at Goodison or on the road. The fans feel it too, and it’s something that makes a huge difference to the atmosphere.”
